Can design deliver on the business school for tomorrow?
Education is a certificate. A programme. A course you need to enter and pass.
The transformation of Welingkar Institute of Management from a conventional business school into a contemporary future-oriented, dynamic institute by means of a radically simple solution elucidates that design can enable creation.
Our starting point
Why do I have to do what everyone else does? Why can't I leave the institute with a brand name and a setup business? Why should education not question conventional modes of thinking? Why can't I go to a college to develop my idea? Why do I have to go to a professional? Why do our courses have to be so bookish? Why can't they be practical? Why is there only one cafeteria? Why can't the whole campus be a cafeteria?
It all started with questioning the traditional education system.
We wanted to create a contemporary, future-oriented dynamic institute that is geared for emerging realities. An institute that believes in innovation.

A new approach to education
No faceless written exams, but a personal interview. No lectures, but rather workshops that allow for continuous learning regardless of age or background. Learn. Apply. Experience. Image. Unlearn. Reapply.
It's about transformation. Being collaborative, as the students and institute move forward. Identity Design
When academics, corporates and society come together, the effects of innovation for progress become threefold. This idea is expressed in the 'trikon' which is the symbol for We School.
The brave new identity completely debunks typical management education, and redefines it for the future; so that we are no longer just a B-School. But a We School.
Where our doors and minds are always open to ideas and innovation. So that we can collaborate with society and with industry, and transform our nation and our world. We are entrepreneurial. We are moving forward.

Transforming Environments
Transforming the We School environment first, so that the business environment can then be transformed.
The concept of 'people-scaping' was applied, as opposed to plain architecture and landscaping, where the possibilities of interactions and activities of students were mapped and around which the spaces were designed.

Applying the power of words through mindmaps and dictionary style communication that express the idea and function of the space throughout the campus.
Mumbai campus
The new identity of We School with the new values was gradually applied to their existing Mumbai Campus.
With design thinking and innovative ideas already buzzing in the campus, there was a need for a dedicated space for continuous learning, innovation and incubation of ideas. And this led us to design the ‘innowe’ lab.
The next was a cosmetic overlay which included spreading across the new colours, the thought provoking graphics and unique installations like value tree and aspiration tree. Mumbai campus is surely an example of a complete makeover from Welingkar to the ‘We School’.

Exhibition displays
Making the most of available spaces to make a powerful impact and leave an impression. Integrating communication and visuals onto the exhibition displays enables visitors to experience what we school is really about.
